One of my friends and a fellow mother at Emerson Waldorf School, Janet Buehler is due any day now to have her third child. She was visiting with her friend Erica last week when the subject of a maternity portrait came up. Erica insisted that she look into getting a portrait done as she had never done it before and this is going to be her last pregnancy. So at almost 38 weeks, she came in for a quiet, Friday morning shoot at the studio. When I asked Janet if she had anything in particular in mind, she replied that she just wanted a great shot of her belly. I did that and more. I wanted to capture her face as well, because I hope that this portrait will be around their family for some time to come and that her boys will want to see not just their mom’s belly, but her beautiful face as well. Three boys! I wish her well. I only have two and sometimes I just marvel at the amount of energy it takes to keep them safe and happy. I will post another installment once the baby is born as that is part of the maternity portrait package as well.

Janet’s labor started in earnest around 10 pm on Thursday night, and went fast. We got to the birth center around 2 am, where the midwives told us: “She’s at 8 centimeters . . . anybody you need to call?” Our neighbor and long-time friend Michelle Coppedge brought our boys Aidan and Malcolm over to the birth center, where they got to witness their brother being born. “The labor part was kind of boring,” said Aidan, “But then, all of the sudden, there’s a tiny person there!” (“He wasn’t that tiny,” said Janet.)
Janet and James are both doing fine. So far Jamie seems pretty laid-back, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for an easy baby. Aidan and Malcolm both like their brother. “Everything’s going to be so different,” Aidan said solemnly. No kidding.
Thank you all for your thoughts, wishes, and prayers. We’re very grateful.
– Janet, Georg, Aidan, Malcolm, and James
