Wishing and Hoping | Wedding Story

Sally Fry and Matt Scruggs met and fell in love on the UNC Chapel Hill campus. They asked us to photograph their whole wedding story! We were lucky enough to photograph her bridal portrait, their engagement portrait, various events leading up to the wedding and the incredible wedding itself. I just love it when we get a chance to know our clients really well and are able to thoroughly document this special time in their lives. We really could not have asked for nicer people to work with. Thank you soooooo much, Sally and Matt!

bridal portraits

We began their photo story in the spring time when we met at my studio for Sally’s bridal portrait. Sally’s mom, Ginny, came along.

After the studio we headed up to campus to get some images in front of the azaleas at the Old Well.
engagement portraits

Then, later in the Spring, Matt, Sally and I met on campus to do a tour. Their courtship took place here so we stopped at all of the significant places. Here we have Sally and Matt at Matt’s old dorm, Old West, which faces the Old Well.

We visited Sally’s old dorm. Behind them is Kenan Dorm where I also lived many moons ago.

This was one of their selections from the session. It was taken in the Arboretum, which is one of my favorite places to photograph.
bridal luncheon

Fast forward to July. All of their friends and family are arriving in Chapel Hill for the wedding. On the day before the wedding the ladies gathered for a lunch and sing-a-long at The Carolina Inn.

Meanwhile the men were having a cookout and playing some games at Sally and Matt’s home in Chapel Hill.

That evening everyone met at University United Methodist Church on Franklin Street for the rehearsal. I think they look ready!

Meanwhile the reception room was ready for the guests to arrive at The Carolina Inn.

This day would not have been possible with out the parents.

The beautiful ladies.

The handsome (and silly) men. They just had to use those gloves at some point.

They incorporated their whole wedding party into their first dance. It was really wonderful!

The whole affair had a french flavor, as Sally has spent significant time in France. Their cake was a croquembouche, which is the traditional French wedding cake made from filled pastry shells. She changed into another dress so she could really dance!
